About the Great Hymns of The Faith

Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood and Old Rugged cross.
Hand crafted with love and assembled with care.
It ’s part of a long past Easter play.
Later a purple cloth was draped across it ’s sturdy limbs.
In the corner it was quietly stowed away.
It stands a reminder of when three were crucified long ago
on a hill called Calvary
Two men were sinners their fate
justified and between them was one sin free
The thought of Him suffering as He died on that
cross remains painful after all these years.
A cup of Go d’s will that He held in His hands
overflowing with His blood and His tears.
He suffered in silence with the jeers and the taunts
until finally “It was finished He cried.”
As the pricks from the thorns in the crown that
He wore mixed His blood with the tears in His eyes.
As the light was fading from our dear Saviours face
and it seemed that all hope was lost.
He reached out his arms to caress our souls
with both His hands nailed to the cross.
All the heavens wept as His dying words
was softly whispered into the wind.
And timbers that were soaked by the tears of angles
that were standing by the remnants of our sins.

And I’ll cherish the Old Rugged Cross
till my trophies at last I lay down.
I will cling to the Old Rugged Cross
and exchange it someday for a crown.

What A Friend We Have in Jesus

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

“In My Father’s House”
Recorded by Elvis Presley

In my father’s house are many mansions
If it were not true he would have told me so
He has gone away to live in that bright city
He’s preparing me a mansion there I know Jesus died upon the cross to bear my sorrow
Freely died that souls like you might have new life
But I know that soon there’ll come a bright tomorrow
When the world will all be free from sin and strife
(Do not shun the saviors love, from up in glory)
(Or you won’t be there to sing the gospel story)
In my father’s house are many mansions
If you’re true then to this land you’ll surely go
